What The Faith Foundry
podcast is NOT!

I suppose it is just as important to say what The Faith Foundry is not.

It is not a definitive declaration of the only true way. It is an honest invitation to explore a different approach to biblical teaching in light of the resurrection of Jesus. Agree or disagree, but don’t just don’t settle for the same old same old.

It is
NOT:

It is not a political commentary. Of course I realize there will be political implications to what we explore, but my goal here is to help us embrace an approach that anchors itself in God’s kingdom, not a national one.

It is not a thesis nailed to the door. My understandings are still emerging; I am growing. I’m not looking to condemn any group of believers, and I am not a debater. I am a pastor sharing his journey with anyone who wants to travel with me.

It is not a hypothetical endeavor. I am, at heart, a practical – use it or lose it – kind of guy. My faith needs to work in the real world or it’s of little value.

It is not a defense of organized religion. I relate to those who find church in its typical form both frustrating and a little frightening. I do not defend a status quo approach to faith. The new wine of the gospel demands new wine skins in every generation.

So, with that in mind, I invite you to check us out. It is not for everybody, but it just might be a refreshing breath of fresh air. That comes with a warning; the process of forging an authentic faith is challenging, sometimes painful and always costly, but it promises much more than it costs. Want to see?

“A personal note”

The past few years have been difficult for me personally. Just as we were emerging from the pandemic, which had a devastating impact on my business life, I had a stroke in March 2023. I am very fortunate to have fully recovered from it without any noticeable damage, but the experience brings a different perspective on life. Months in the hospital and rehab gave me plenty of time to think about my time left here. Then, just as I was starting to recover, I had knee replacement surgery that I had put off during Covid.

In November ‘23 I had my surgery – and that backfired. Due to an infection and a series of complications, requiring multiple surgeries and several more months in the hospital, I am now finally getting close to being fully functional. (I’m sure there’s a joke there, but I’m ignoring it!)

“A season of amazing learning”

During Covid, and in the years since, I have been enjoying an amazing season of learning. I have been seeing so many things in Scripture, about which I had a basic understanding, but completely missed the way the various parts were all connected. I’ve never been more excited to be seeing things that I missed before.

As I contemplated what to do about all the things God has been showing me, the idea of this podcast was born. I’ve never done this before, and I am more than a little intimidated by the prospects of doing so, but I believe that, with God’s enabling, this will make something of a contribution to the spiritual growth of my friends. Please accept my invitation to check it out. Welcome!
